McDonald's wants to give away his own PS5 controller, must not

McDonald's Australia has designed its own Fastfood style PS5 controller. From the controllers for the PlayStation 5 should actually go out 50 pieces for the birthday at streamers and gamers. Shortly after the announcement, however, McDonald's had to remove them from the promo: McDonald's apparently forgot to ask at Sony at all after permission.

What is that for a controller? The Controller of McDonald's is a "custom controller", thus looks different than the conventional dualsense for the PlayStation 5, otherwise you get in the store.

Instead of simply black or white, the controller would have been decorated with fries and burgers, had a small McDonald's logo had imprinted and would otherwise have come in the merry red-white of the Fast Food Giant.

However, regular functions had hidden. A "normal" dualsense in pretty look so. The special, next to the optics: McDonald's just wanted to give away 50 pieces worldwide. A real collector's piece:

Why the effort? The McDonald's controller was planned as a promo campaign for the 50th anniversary of McDonald's Australia. There should start the "Stream Week" on Sunday, the 1st of August.

Australian fans would have had the opportunity for several Twitch streamers to win such a controller. However, the event had to be postponed shortly before the start and the prices had to be changed.

McDonald's plans birthday event obviously without Sony

That's why McDonald's had to rest: In a statement, McDonald's Australia betrayed that Sony Playstation had objections. It says: "Sony PlayStation has not authorized the use of the controller in promo material in conjunction with the proposed Stream Week and we apologize for the inconvenience" (via press-art.com.au).

According to IGN research, the picture is a "internal concept", which should never have been published because it never left the planning phase (via Ign.com; The title image also comes from there). The picture is mistakenly entered the media and there is no commercial partnership between McDonald's Australia and Sony PlayStation.

The Stream Week itself was moved to unknown and the prices are adjusted. Now there are about hoodies and a subscription to the corresponding streamer. The controllers were removed from the prize pool.

Such custom controllers are usually more common, some companies work together with the console manufacturers to create special collectibles for promo purposes. Apparently it was missed to ask for permission beforehand.

On Twitter, it says about a user (via twitter.com): "With a view that Sony blocks this promotion, you should [McDonald's] make the same only with Xbox controllers. I am sure that Microsoft gives an endless less f * CKS. "

Sony himself has also allowed such special controllers previously and even made themselves, but only for very special purposes:

Sony makes finally chic controllers for the PS5, but retains them for themselves
