Say, what happened this year, everything happened?, A few days ago the question in the daily editor call when we talked about our traditional annual review. Not, because this year nothing would have happened, but rather, because 2021 just felt so much longer than just 12 months.
The answer to my question is of course: lots of.
Too much to summarize everything in a single article and actually meet the emotional roller coaster of the last few months. After all, we talk about the year in which the GameStop equity insanity was held on Trap in January, GTA 6 is still not announced and the topic of NFTs became greater. And we learned that there are Nintendo gs Speed runner — to name only a few things.
But we also talk about one year, in which the growth pain of the video game industry, among other things, became obvious thanks to Activision and Ubisoft very great and dominated a considerable part of the headlines. Something that will also accompany us over this year.
Therefore, this review does not want to throw any general view of the gaming year 2021. Rather, we return the look inward before we roll up the sleeves again and dedicate us 2022 new adventures and challenges.
What happened behind the scenes
Similar to last year, Team Gamer — like the rest of our Media College, was completely in the home office, also 2021. The one or the other courageous soul migrated to the office, in order to throw our empty desks a yearning look, most of the team, however, only saw himself in the daily video conferencing — and not that little.
However, the persistent home office situation also has its advantages, because so it was possible for the expansion of the team our sensors not only to extend in the locations Berlin and Munich. In addition to plenty of new freelancers, we were allowed to welcome-trainee-and-Bald editor Annika, editorial Eleven and Social Video Producer Irina in the team this year. And two Gamer babies, which, however, are still a bit too young to how themselves in the buttons. Meanwhile, just do their dads, Toby and Hannes.
Kevin Aka Alfred, who has been supporting Toby and Dennis in community management since this year, is also not yet unmentioned and helped with our fantastic presentation team helps to make the GP community an even better place for everyone.

Of course, we were not idle in the home office, but always worked to improve Gamer.DE and our reporting for you. Despite the release lumen, more than 12 months ago, more than 5,000 items have gone online for us: whether news, guides, columns, lists, previews, specials, reports or tests, it was hopefully for everyone.
Our largest projects did not only belong this year not only the traditional Find Your Next Game Event, which was started with Fang hardware for the first time with Fang hardware this year, but also our hero indoor theme weeks, in which we love our loved ones three weeks Video game characters have written. In addition, we finally presented you the long promised 150 best Nintendo games of all time to call only a few of our larger projects.
Highlights and Lowlights
While 2020 we had some large dangers such as The Last of US: Part 2 or Animal Crossing and of course several new consoles that have seriously employed and have a hard time, 2021 was more reluctant, which the releases are concerned. Nonetheless, of course, we were still not idle in terms of tests.
Therefore, eight games over a rating over 90 were allowed this year, especially the fantastic disco Elysium: The Final Cut for Nintendo Switch, which took the pole position with a 92. But also games like It Takes Two, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, F1 2020 or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart collected a smooth 90th if you want to read more about our personal highlights 2021 can do this here.
At the bottom of the value scale, fortunately, quite a few games caved: Aliens: Fire team Elite with a 48 and the recent biomutant (55), which was previously with a 45 of the flop of the year — at least when we for GTA Trilogy on Nintendo Switch omit for which we have pronounced a purchase warning.
Who wants to know what this year still provided for disappointment in the Game pro editors, can take a look at our flops 2021.
